My One Word

I’ve been a little slow to the party on this one.

I just couldn’t get settled on a word and then I wasn’t sure I really liked the word that God kept whispering to me.

H U M I L I T Y

It’s painful to even type it because to commit to it is to acknowledge that I need it…

And so begins the battle with humility’s arch enemy – pride.

Ugh!

But humility it is because I need it to be more defining of my life.

“All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’  Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”  1 Peter 5:5-6

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”  Proverbs 11:2

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”  James 4:10

“He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.”  Psalm 25:9

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”  Ephesians 4:2

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”  Philippians 2:3

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14

“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”  Luke 14:11

There seems to be no shortage of support for why this word should be my word for 2011.

How about you?  Have you selected One Word for 2011?

I thought my word was not fun…your word is really not fun ;)

humility is such a strong and beautiful word. thankful that Christ is the perfect example of how it is to be humble and yet, have confidence in your identity.

    my one word – believe.

the enemy of belief is unbelief and doubt.

hoping to grow stronger in taking God at His word this year even without seeing any results for blessed is she who BELIEVES what the Lord says will come to pass. [luke 1:45]

Good post Jenni!! That’s a tough word. Really tough.

  • http://brain-drops.com Michelle

    Discipline.
For too long I’ve allowed excuses to stand in the way. No longer. I’m working on it every day. One day at a time.

Thanks for the brutal transparency, Jenni. My word for 2011 is “Now.” It’s time to pursue God’s best ahead and leave behind everything else. Period and bottom line.

Thanks for your honesty Jenni. I just learned about Alece’s decision for this, but had been lead to do it on my own also. My word for this year is INTENTIONAL. Lots of tough evaluation lies ahead this year, but I can’t wait to see the way He uses it and how He leads you to find new life, hope, and ministry.

    That’s a great word!

Mine is “connect”. This year is about connection for me. Connection to God. Connection to others. Connection to the life He has called me to live.

    WOW.

Blog posts don’t usually make me blurt something out loud when I read it but I did for this one.

That’s a bold and hard word, Jenni. Good luck with it.

Humble. Humility. Two words my youth kids from many moons ago decided to combine into humbility. I carried humbility around for many years… like a double burden… but also double blessings.

I love your choice. I’m gald you are wearing that word on your heart… and so glad so many of us are taking this challenge… because it is so very profound to me.

    My word: FORWARD

    Hi,
I love your word. I was nervous about mine too, still kind of am. But, only if I let fear take over me. My word is Hope, it kept choosing me, or rather, God kept whispering it over and over, putting it before me. I couldn’t escape it.

This is a year of renewed hope. Trusting in God for His best in the future He has for me. Letting go of this past year and the “yuck.”

    Cole
