Friday Fun

I’ve been slacking lately on my Friday Fun list.  Here’s what’s happening today:

  • Got my hair cut and colored… I was so overdue!
  • 5 mile run (without Ashley because she’s out of town) … it was so beautiful outside today!
  • Went to my friend Rachel’s BRAND NEW house – literally the construction guys were finishing up the last minute things! – to facilitate the delivery of appliances.  I am so giddy excited for her!  Her house is amazing and she has waited a LONG time for this new season.  That’s the great thing about good friends… her new house is like a new house for me too… I know there will be plenty of decorating discussions and shopping to come! :)
  • A little work
  • Some reading in preparation for our staff 2009 planning day coming up in October
  • Going out for dinner and movie with my sweet sis.  We’re going to see Nights in Rodanthe – I hope it’s as good as the book!

Hope your weekend is great!

Friday Fun – Time for Some Answers

For this week’s Friday Fun I thought I would answer some of the questions you asked about me yesterday.  So here we go…

#1 – Tam asked:

what has been your greatest accomplishment so far?  [and how tall are you?]

I would say that being married to my amazing husband for almost 10 years is my greatest accomplishment so far.  [I'm 5'4" :) ]

#2 – Aaron asked:

how did you end up in your role as Executive Director at Cross Point?

I’ll try to keep this brief… my husband and I were a part of the original team that helped launch Cross Point so we have been here since the beginning of the church.  I was rocking the Christian music business and truly expected to be running a record label one day.  I just got to a season where I was restless with my job for no good reasons and felt like God was calling me to something different.  Pete had dropped a few hints that if I ever changed jobs to talk to him, so although I didn’t see an obvious fit I took him to lunch one day to let him know I was actively looking for a new job.  That turned into about 6 months of discussions and a job that I absolutely love!

#3 – Randi asked:

how about ‘day in the life of’… meaning what’s your everyday schedule look like? :)

Hmmm… everyday has a little bit different twist, but here’s an average Mon-Thur:

6:00 AM – wake-up and do 2.5 mile run

6:45 AM – shower

7:00-7:30 AM – breakfast & quiet time

7:30-8:15 AM – finish getting ready for work

8:30 – 5:30 PM – usually a series of meetings, most with CP staff, some with CP volunteers, some with other church leaders and I try to carve out an hour or two to actually work on my “to do” list which right now includes things like planning/scouting new campus locations, budgets, performance plans, a women’s event, etc.

Evenings – usually 2-3 of my evenings each week are committed to things like our new members class, women’s event planning meeting, attending youth group, etc.  I try to be home at least one night a week to work-out or play tennis with my husband and make dinner (a rare treat).

Fridays & Saturdays are catch up days.  Lots of errands, lunches with friends, and golf or tennis with my husband.

#4 – Jan Owen asked:

what’s a dream for the future God has percolating in your heart?

Oh, this is a tough one… I’m in a season where I’m really trying to define God’s dreams versus my selfish desires.  My passion is to teach, train, inspire, mentor other leaders, especially women and I’m working out exactly what the specifics of this look like.  I don’t mean to be vague.  I’m still seeking the specifics of this.

#5 – FullofBoys asked:

I want to know what your workout routine is….you are always so fit! :)

First of all, thanks!  Here’s a quick run-down:

Sunday – off

Monday – 2.5 mile run

Tuesday – off unless my evening is free and then I’ll do a 5 mile “bonus” walk or play tennis with Merlyn

Wednesday – 2.5 mile run

Thursday – weight training (varies each week, but usually an upper body routine)

Friday – long run  5+miles

Saturday – tennis lesson

Thanks for the great questions.  I’ll answer more soon!

Now it’s your turn!  Pick one of the 5 questions from above and answer it for us!

Friday Fun

My earlier post was a little intense so I thought I would lighten it up with a list of today’s Friday Fun!

  • No alarm clock to wake up to…. aaagghhh!
  • 5 miles with Ash. 1/2 running trails, 1/2 roads. HOT! Very HOT!
  • Cleaned the house because that makes me comfortable :)
  • Hung out at the pool for a few hours with friends
  • Planning to finish Eclipse today so I’m ready for Breaking Dawn to come out tomorrow.
  • A little more reading and studying and then I’m making a pizza and watching a ‘chick flick’

Perfect Friday Fun, don’t you think?

What are you going to do for fun this weekend?

Friday Fun

For today’s Friday Fun I thought I would share with you a few of ‘my favorite things‘:

  • the accomplished feeling after completing a nice long run (7 miles today)
  • clean sheets – oh how I love cozying up in my bed with freshly laundered sheets! I would have fresh clean sheets every day of the week if I could… but then, maybe it wouldn’t be so special?
  • the smell of suntan lotion – I feel like I’m at the beach even though I’m oh so far away
  • reading a good book while soaking up the sunshine
  • attending the Cross Point Nashville men’s softball games – there’s nothing like being at the ballpark in the summer time!

These are a few of ‘my favorite things‘ that I enjoyed today for Friday Fun!

I hope you had a good day too. What did you do?

Friday Fun

It’s the usual Friday Fun today:

  • 6 miles with Ash this morning
  • laundry and house cleaning (I’m not making good progress, though)
  • blog reading
  • lunch with my friend Kat who I haven’t seen in FOREVER!
  • Jes and her new pup Sammy Mac are coming over this afternoon – A play date for Sammy and Mick and a tech support day for our blogs.
  • Merlyn has softball games tonight that I plan to go out and cheer for
  • And I need to go buy some cabinets for the Family Ministries office build-out; Pat and his team should be able to move into their new office space around the 1st of July!

That’s it for today.

How’s your Friday Fun shaping up?

Friday Fun

Taking on The Big Apple

Rachel and I have been non-stop for the last three days. It’s amazing what two A-type personalities can accomplish when we have a big goal ahead of us… and our goal was to have fun in NYC and make the most of our mini vacation.

That’s exactly what we’ve done:

  • Seeing the sites (we did one of those double-decker bus tours that Marla suggested and we loved it!)
  • Great food including Rosa Mexicana and Tao Restaurant (as recommended by Matt) for our fancier fare as well as pizza, ice cream, and cheesecake (for Rachel – you all know I hate creamy cheesy stuff!)
  • Lots of shopping – 5th Avenue, Soho, China Town, Greenwich Village and more (as evidenced below)
  • Theatre – saw Wicked tonight at the Gershwin Theatre and it was unbelievable!

Does Friday Fun get any better than this?

Yes, it’s time for me to come home! :)

Friday Fun

Today’s Friday Fun was extra special because I got to share the afternoon with these two precious girls…

No, they are not mine (but I would take them in a heartbeat!)

Alex and Maddie belong to some dear friends that I have had the privilege to get to know over the last three years.

We got to hang out at this cool kids place called The Monkey’s Treehouse and then we devoured some Maggie Moo’s ice cream. A fabulous afternoon!

Unfortunately our day of fun was a little bittersweet… you see, today was also Alex and Maddie’s last day living in Nashville. Their family is relocating and will live about 5 hours from Nashville.

I think I’m still in denial… but I know we’ll stay in touch. How could I not be a part of these sweet girls’ lives?

Alex & Maddie – I love you both so much and I’ll see you soon!

Friday Fun

Rather typical Friday today:

  • 8.5 mile run with Ash today – not our best day… we were feeling all the crap we ate this week on staff trip :)
  • quick clean-up of the house because Merlyn’s mom is visiting this weekend
  • lunch at Calypso Cafe (one of my favorite’s) with Merlyn and his mom
  • lots of catch-up: Junior League details, Google Reader, laundry, etc
  • have a date tonight with Merlyn… don’t know what we are doing yet – can’t wait!

That’s about it! No big plans for the holiday weekend… which sounds so good to me right now.

What are you doing this weekend?

Friday Fun

Here’s today’s Friday Fun:

  • Mick woke me up at 5:30 a.m. to go outside
  • Couldn’t go back to sleep so indulged in a fiction book for 45 minutes
  • Blueberry bagel and Teavana English breakfast tea for breakfast
  • Ran 8 miles with Ashley in Percy Warner Park; I’m nursing a sore calf muscle but did pretty well
  • Went shopping with Ashley for staff trip; I can’t wait to share details soon!
  • Catching up on some work this afternoon
  • Meeting my sister for dinner at La Paz and then to see Made of Honor – total girl night… I’m so excited!
  • Best of all, Merlyn comes home tonight after being gone ALL week!

What did you do today?
