Friday Fun

Taking on The Big Apple

Rachel and I have been non-stop for the last three days. It’s amazing what two A-type personalities can accomplish when we have a big goal ahead of us… and our goal was to have fun in NYC and make the most of our mini vacation.

That’s exactly what we’ve done:

  • Seeing the sites (we did one of those double-decker bus tours that Marla suggested and we loved it!)
  • Great food including Rosa Mexicana and Tao Restaurant (as recommended by Matt) for our fancier fare as well as pizza, ice cream, and cheesecake (for Rachel – you all know I hate creamy cheesy stuff!)
  • Lots of shopping – 5th Avenue, Soho, China Town, Greenwich Village and more (as evidenced below)
  • Theatre – saw Wicked tonight at the Gershwin Theatre and it was unbelievable!

Does Friday Fun get any better than this?

Yes, it’s time for me to come home! :)

Baby Steps

I’m one of those people who has trouble disconnecting from work when it comes time for vacation. This is especially troublesome on short trips like my current one to NYC. I’m only here for 4 days and it usually takes me at least 5 to quit worrying about work and checking my phone every 5 minutes.

So I’ve tried to be pretty intentional about not stressing about work during this time away and here are some other things I’ve decided to not stress about:

  • working out every day
  • eating dessert EVERY day, sometimes twice a day
  • keeping a schedule
  • checking my blog stats :)
  • trying to do everything that I would like to do or think that I should do
  • going to bed late or getting up early – no alarm clocks on this trip!

Well, the fact that I’m writing all of these down means that I’m stressing about them enough to tell myself not to stress…

…but really, this is progress for me

baby steps.

What baby steps do you celebrate?

New York City – Here We Come!

I can’t help but get a bit giddy about going to New York City. It’s the hub of culture… it’s vibrant, it’s busy, it’s extreme, it’s exciting!

It truly is the city that never sleeps.

Today I’m headed to NYC with my friend Rachel for my first totally “fun” trip. I’ve been to New York on numerous occasions for work and most recently the Q Conference, however I have never been just for fun.

This is a “girl” trip so there will be lots of…

SHOPPING, SITE-SEEING, SHOPPING, FOOD, SHOPPING, ETC.

oh, and did I mention shopping?

I’ll be twittering all the fun details, so click HERE to follow me on Twitter if you don’t already.

Can’t wait to share the details!!

What do you love about NYC? Let me know what we should check out while we’re there!

BTW, This is also my submission to Watercooler Wednesday

I Love the City!

We made it to New York City today and enjoyed an afternoon getting acclimated to where we are and where we are supposed to be tomorrow.  Even though I have traveled to many large cities, New York City always stuns me when I get here.  The picture doesn’t do justice to the lights and stimulation of this place.

I’m traveling with two of our Elders at Cross Point, Brian Dishon and Dave Senes.   We’ll spend the next three days at the Q Conference, immersing ourselves in discussion about how the church can and should be influencing culture.  I can’t wait!

Here’s a pic of Brian and Dave near Times Square grapping some Starbucks.

Since our conference schedule will be packed for the next three days, our main mission today was to head to China Town for some shopping.  Dave had some specific instructions from his wife about a purse that she wanted and for those of you who know me, I always need a new purse.  Mission accomplished!
