Friday Fun

1 Comment 20 August 2010

This week has been an “I can’t catch my breath” kind of week.  Good stuff…  just a very full schedule.

But my crazy week has a payoff.  I’ve been looking forward to this weekend for months!  Merlyn and I are headed to Cincinnati for the Western & Southern Tennis Open, part of the US Open Series.  I’m so excited!

Right now it looks like we have a good chance of seeing Federer, Nadal, Murray, & Djokovic.

I’m kind of giddy. :)

So, follow me on Twitter this weekend.  I’ll be sure to tell you all about it!

What is on the horizon that you are looking forward to?

Whew!  It’s been a full week.

It’s Friday… my day for catching up.  My day for reading, running, Cultivate Her planning, errands, writing, dreaming and shopping (if I can fit it in.) Oh and laundry, but I try not to think about that one.

I always try to pack more into Friday than I ought to since it’s supposed to be my winding down day, however today my mind is racing.  I didn’t get everything done that I needed to this week.  In fact I missed a few things that I really needed to get done.   But here is some of what I did do this past week:

  • Partnered with Justin to lead the very first Discovering Cross Point class for the Bellevue Campus. So fun to share vision with a new group of potential CP members.  It was a great night!
  • Had a great “All Staff” meeting with our team.  We’re gearing up for some fun stuff with our staff this fall including attending The NINES conference on September 9th.  Are you registered yet – it’s free?  Our team is going to making a fun day of it.
  • Had the privilege of hanging out with the Buckhead Church staff on Wednesday and I got to share my passion for being “Confident in our Calling” as church leaders.  I love how Jeff Henderson leads his team.  I’m always trying to learn as much from him as I can.

I’m also excited about the launch of our new series this Sunday!

DNA returns, now in 3D.

Seriously, be ready to get your 3D glasses when you arrive Sunday at all of our campuses and prepare for some Cross Point DNA delivered to you in 3D!  Here’s a little preview:

Love our team and the work they put into making this stuff happen!

So far we’ve:

  • Sat on the beach
  • Read on the beach
  • Shopped
  • Eaten
  • Sat on the beach

Today we’ll:

  • Run/walk on the beach
  • Eat
  • Lay on the beach
  • Lay on our rafts on the water
  • Read on the beach
  • Eat
  • Shop
  • Eat again

Totally predictable & fabulous!

This week flew by!

Fortunately it was a very good one.  Here are some things on my mind today:

  • An important project that I’ve been working on (which happened to be one of my thorns), is officially complete today!  Holy cow, that’s a wonderful feeling.  I’m not sure how to adequately celebrate it.
  • It’s been a roller coaster week for all things Cultivate Her.  Some good news, some bad news, some big dreaming and then a great event this past Wednesday with our guest speaker Tami Heim.  We’re dreaming and scheming some amazing stuff for all things women in leadership, so stay tuned.
  • Our Cross Point missions teams are back home this week.  Our team in the Dominican Republic came back Tuesday and our Honduras team gets back tomorrow.  So proud of each of these teams for serving so big!  You can check out highlights from the Honduras trip HERE.
  • Almost finished with Steven Furtick’s new book Sun Stand Still: What Happens When You Dare to Ask God for the Impossible.  This one is making me think and pray BIG!  It doesn’t release until Sept 21st, but you can pre-order by clicking the title.
  • Gotta finish up my talk for The NINES this weekend.  Are you registered to attend?  It’s FREE!  Our entire staff is going to attend this year.
  • Can’t believe July is almost over.
  • I’m working on some big planning and leadership development stuff for our team for this fall.  I’m getting so excited – love people development stuff – LOVE IT!
  • My thumb which I smashed during flood week is growing back really funky.  Kind of afraid it’s going to stay that way.  :(
  • Going to the beach for a few days the end of next week with my sis.  Can’t wait!
  • Walking with Ash in 30 minutes!  Love that sweet little Audrey Beth but she has messed up our weekly run/walk time.  Excited to get back to it!
  • Hoping to see Inception this weekend.  Everyone is raving about it.  Have you seen it?

Find some joy in your weekend and tell us about it!

Ahhh, I love Fridays!

I actually have a full day planned today, but all things that I am looking forward to.  Here’s what’s on my mind today:

  • Excited about a collaborative meeting with a few of my favorite women to brainstorm long-term plans for Cultivate Her.
  • Had the privilege of talking with Greg Darley this week and learning more about Backstage Leadership.  If you are looking for an intensive, leadership development opportunity where you can connect and learn from some amazing leaders, check this program out.  They start another class this fall!
  • My dog is crazy today.  C R A Z Y !  I can’t figure out what he needs… he’s pacing like a mad man!
  • Just started the book Strong Women, Soft Hearts by Paula Rinehart.  Really great book that I first heard about from Jessica and Angie for Bloom Book Club.  Just read the chapter on desire and am wondering if I really know the true desires of my heart.
  • Gotta register for Story today.  Only a little over 100 seats left and best rate ends today.  Are you going?
  • Right now a 5 mile hot, humid run is ahead of me.
  • Maybe the pool tomorrow…

Love the summer!

What’s your plan for this weekend?

Ahhhh, the 4th of July weekend!  I love this holiday!

It’s snuck up on me a little bit, but I’m seriously glad for a long weekend to relax and spend time with friends.

Here’s what’s on my mind today:

  • Finally got to see Eclipse last night and I LOVED IT!  The directing, special effects and acting get a bit better with every movie, but honestly it really is a cheesy story in movie form (I can’t believe I just admitted that out loud – don’t tell Merlyn!).  If you haven’t read the books, you are missing layers of story that finish it out and make it seem less ridiculous.
  • I’m keeping Lindsey‘s dog Molly for the weekend and she’s become my new best friend.  Follows me everywhere I go and does leaping circles every time I come home… makes me feel kind of loved :)
  • I have a couple of writing projects I need to work on this weekend.  Need to break-away for some inspiration.
  • We’ve confirmed our guest speaker for the July Cultivate Her event – will announce this on the Cultivate Her blog by Monday.  Very excited!
  • Wimbledon is absolutely crazy this year.  Can’t believe Federer & Venus are out.  Anxious to see how it finishes!
  • Hoping to tackle of chunk of John Ortberg’s The Me I Want to Be: Becoming God’s Best Version of You I’m loving this book!
  • Tomatoes and green peppers are flowing from my little patio garden.  Divine!

Hope you have a wonderful and safe 4th of July weekend!

Anything exciting planned?

It’s been a good week.  Life feels very full and blessed.

Here’s some of the randomness on my mind and in my life right now.

  • Have a great day planned with friends today.  Much needed time with people who speak truth and celebrate big.
  • Excited that tomorrow is Serving Saturday at all of our campuses.  We’ll be continuing flood relief efforts.  Come out and join us!  We’re meeting at 8am at all of the campuses.
  • I’m thoroughly enjoying some of the this summer’s Top 40 music.  Music always marks the seasons for me.  I’m lovin’ “Nothin’ On You” by B.o.B. featuring Bruno Mars
  • Thrilled that I could get the new iPhone4.  I know some of you are tired of hearing about it, but sometimes you gotta just enjoy the silly things in life.
  • Started reading John Ortberg’s The Me I Want to Be.  This one is gonna be good for me.
  • Had a great day at Cultivate Her Wednesday morning.  Really excited about some of the ideas and direction this ministry is taking.  Big news coming soon about the plans and opportunities for Cultivate Her!
  • So excited that it’s Wimbledon time and can’t believe the Isner-Mahut match.  Isner wins with a 70-68 game set.  CRAZY!  Here’s the interview of the players after the match.  I can’t imagine how tired they were after playing the same match for three straight days.  That’s determination!

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Flood Relief Continues

1 Comment 14 May 2010

The last 12 days have been a complete whirlwind!

The amazing Cross Point volunteers have served in extraordinary ways these last 12 days and yet, there is still so much to do.

Our Flood Relief Efforts continue and there are three specific ways that you can get involved:

1) Volunteer!

Tomorrow, Saturday May 15th – Join us at the Bellevue Campus (former Circuit City next to Home Depot) at 9:00 AM

  • We’re partnering with WAY-FM for a huge day of serving!
  • A team will also be going out from our Dickson Campus.

2) Buy a T-Shirt!

My friends Susannah and a team of others have partnered together to create these Nashville Flood Tees.  All proceeds of the tees are going back to local organizations (including Cross Point) to help with flood relief. Go HERE to get yours!

3) Donate to our Flood Relief Fund! We’ve been so blessed by the generosity that has poured in already.  Every gift will help a family begin to rebuild!

Thank you again for the prayers, support and encouragement that all of you have given!

It’s a little late in the day for my Friday Fun post, but here it is anyway…

Today was such a full, inspiring day!

  • We kicked off the day bright & early with Cultivate HerConfidence was the subject of the day and I was joined by a great panel of women to help discuss the subject.  I walked away from this morning so encouraged.  I heard so many great comments… so many stories of how this was exactly what they needed to hear… so many reasons to remind me why we need leadership development for women!
  • Happy Birthday wishes to my GG Rachel!  Can’t wait to celebrate with you next week!!
  • I bought a pair of shoes on clearance :)
  • Took a walk through the Bellevue Campus.  15 days until launch.  Screens and projectors were being installed today.  So exciting to see it taking shape!
  • Got some good news that I’m looking forward to announcing soon.
  • Went for a long walk.  Got a little crazy and chose “shuffle” on my ipod for my walking tunes. ;)
  • Tackled some email and a few work issues
  • Discovered that my tomato plant has it’s first baby tomato!

Have a great weekend!

Today’s Friday Fun is just a rundown of my week and my random thoughts… enjoy!

  • I started my week off by joining the Faith Promise team for their staff retreat.  I had a blast with these guys.  Such a great team!
  • In my musings this week I’ve determined that I’m not really a blogger… I’m a leader who happens to blog.  I wish I was a better blogger.  Got any tips for me?
  • I’m convinced that local honey works for allergies.  I went two days without eating any and my allergies blew up!
  • ONE WEEK until April’s Cultivate Her event! I announced our panel speakers who will be talking about the subject of confidence.  So excited!  Have you RSVP’d?
  • My dad and his girlfriend are coming into town this weekend.  Dad and Merlyn are doing some golfing, the girls will do some shopping and they’ll all be able to watch Jes and I cross the finish line for the Country Music 1/2 Marathon!
  • Speaking of the 1/2 Marathon… really praying it’s not a tornado infested, violent hail storm like they’re predicting tomorrow morning.
  • Cleaning the house… always cleaning the house
  • Really wish I had been able to go to Catalyst West this week… enjoyed all the tweets about it!
  • Planning to post some updates about Faith, Hope & Love and the Bellevue Campus tomorrow – so exciting!

How’s your weekend shaping up?  Make sure you enjoy it!
