My notes from:

“Eternally Focused” by Blake Bergstrom

“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23

The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it.  W.M. Lewis

The situation is grave – we are going to die.  So I think we need to lighten up and live.

Really living is something that we decide to do.  Living is a choice.

God wants us to choose him above all else.

Mark 12:28

The heart is the center of our life.  It’s our nucleus, our identity.

Luke 16:14-15

God knows all of our desires.  He knows them and wants them.

Guard your heart – the enemy is a crafty deceiver.

Have you forgotten how to live?  Is a part of you crumbling because of some circumstance you’re facing?

Proverbs 14:12

“Create in me a clean heart, O God: and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

Your heart can not and will not be a wellspring of life if you are not guarding it.

“For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45

Decide to have joy in the midst of all your circumstances.  Joy is a choice.

The best way for your heart to be the wellspring of life is for you to live with the end in mind.

Psalm 39:4-5

Are you living?  What are you living for?

2 Corinthians 4:18

Why isn’t there a sense of urgency in the way we live?

Put your focus back on Jesus.

When your heart is centered and your desires are as they should be, your heart will be a wellspring of life.

Count your moments.  Live fully present, fully alive.

Your heart should be a wellspring of life… but not for you.  It’s for everyone around you.

Maybe, for you, guarding your heart is:

  • putting a block on your computer
  • having a conversation with the person you can’t get along with
  • to stop comparing yourself to everyone around you
  • to stop going for seconds and thirds – your binge eating is literally killing you
  • to quit obsessing over your stuff

How do you need to guard your heart today?

What can you do to live more fully alive?

Jenni, God gave me a word recently. He simply said to me “It’s time to sing!”. After prayer I can only interpret this to mean that it’s time to share what God has done in my life, so I’m trying to focus on the good things, and not the difficulties and speak of these things. This will help me feel more fully alive. I think some of it is being fully present in the moment and say “yes” to opportunities to enjoy the goodness of God – in others and in nature, and in opportunities we are given.

Sometimes we’re so busy checking things off our list that we are not living.

I love this quote “Spiritual formation is always for the sake of others….” That reminds me of what Blake said about our heart being a wellspring of life.

  2. Jenni…I love serving Christ alongside you. Thanks for such a great recap of the message…you were really listening!! :)
