shoes

SHOES!

I love them.

Today I counted them….

51

Yes, I counted 51 pairs of shoes in my closet today!

How many of them did I wear today?

1 pair

So it’s time to put these shoes to good use!

I love the Soles 4 Souls “50,000 Pairs in 50 Days Challenge” and I’ve been trying to figure out how I could contribute in a meaningful way.

So, here’s my plan:

1) I will be donating 20% of the shoes in my closet directly to Soles 4 Souls.  (They do take gently used shoes at their donation centers.)

2) Over the course of the campaign I will be purchasing a pair of shoes for every pair that I own.  In order to do this financially I will have to make a few sacrifices including:

  • Eating out one less time per week
  • Not purchasing any additional shoes for myself between now and the end of the year (I have to admit this freaks me out because holiday parties are coming up and I will be tempted to purchase that perfect pair of shoes!!  But there – I made the public commitment!!)

So, how about you?  Have you accepted the Soles for Souls Shoe Challenge?

The cool thing is only $5 buys 2 pairs of shoes!!

It takes under 2 minutes to donate and only three clicks – super easy!

So if you think this is something you can do…five bucks, three clicks, two minutes = two pairs of shoes to someone in need, just visit http://www.50000shoes.com.

And just for fun, how many pairs of shoes are in your closet?

You have me totally inspired! I can not wait to share this with Heath! This is a great way to make it more personal.

Do you know if they take children’s shoes that are gently used?

  2. Rachel says:

I hope this picture is not of your real shoes because I’ll have to have an intervention on your poor taste. ;) I actually laughed because I remember sending you shoe ads that would look good on you so I’m an enabler.

What a great idea, JC. I actually down-sized during the move and have 15 pr including boots & slippers. You get a free pass though since you are in a more visible line of work. “Shoes make the outfit”, right?

What a great idea ! Since I work from home I don’t really have many shoes maybe 5 pair, but I do love my flip flops !!!!! I have about 4 pairs of those ;) Gotta go donate !

@fullofboys – not sure if they take kids shoes, but I bet they do.

    @Rachel – I’m impressed – 15 pair! Love you friend, but that’s good for you!! ;)

    @Lisa – I admire your simplicity!

@Jeff – you didn’t reveal your # of shoes… surely you don’t have more than any of us

My small group and I donated together!

I have no idea how many shoes I have in my closet (or by the back door or under the couch…they so rarely actually make it back to the closet) but I know it’s more than I need!

I purge regularly – and still have 45 pairs. Casual – dress – summer – winter – to go with blacks – to go with browns – to go with whites and brights. Actually, I think I probably have more shoes than outfits?

  8. Jenni Catron says:

I should mention in my defense that I did count ALL of my shoes… every pair of flip flops, tennis shoes for the yard, etc. But I know, still A LOT!

thanks again for doing this. i can’t wait to share it on my blog. such a great idea!

Only three. I think I need to gather and put away a couple pairs of shoes…

Funny, I was given two BIG bags of shoes yesterday, almost all heels. I wouldn’t think they could use these, but I don’t want to give them to Goodwill if S4S can use them.

  11. there’s no way those are you shoes… none of us would let you walk out in public in that rainbow number. :)

i have too many shoes!!!!! thanks for the challenge!

  12. Jenni Catron says:

@Rachel and @brandiandboys – yeah, I guess I should have clarified that the rainbow assortment were not mine, but I liked the vivid obnoxious statement they make!

  13. Jessica says:

im with you on the count, im right around 50… here is the thing, i have been looking for more shoes and cant seem to find ones i like ( feeling like I needed more wintery ones and not all flips) maybe the reason I cant find any is bacause I am not suppose to NOT use the money on me! Im in!

  14. Jenni Catron says:

@Jessica – where in the world did we get our obsessive shoe fetish?

  15. tam says:

ha! great minds! i have a post ready to go up this weekend about the amt of shoes i have too, promoting soles for souls.

but i dont think i have as many as you. we’ll see.

i do know i only have one christmas tree…in one room.

    im just sayin.
